Not your everyday tea and biscuits

Between Jake and I, our apartment has quite the tea collection. We have many kinds of teas, mugs, teapots, and accessories. We had started to reach a slow point in our tea consumption until our friend introduced us to Taiwanese Bubble Tea. She brought us to a small bubble tea shop in Old Port, ME called Bubble Maineia, and it was fantastic. Their menu is enormous, with a range of basic flavors such as strawberry and peach to more obscure ones like passion fruit and taro. Your beverage selection is not limited to hot and iced teas, they also have spectacular slushes and milkshakes. The most unique part of these tasty treats are the the tapioca pearls in the bottom of your drink. The tapioca "bubbles" are fairly large in size (a little bit smaller than marbles), and travel with the beverage as you drink through an over sized straw. Don't worry, though, you can always pass on the bubbles and get a regular tea. Instead of the tapioca pearls, you have the option of ordering your drinks with flavored jelly, but I have yet to try that.

Bubble tea is a pretty trendy drink, and most of the customers appear to be regulars. Jake and I have only recently acquired "regulars" status, and have begun requesting that they surprise us with new flavor combinations. I used to stick with my regular strawberry papaya milkshake, but lately have been interested in the Roselle and passion fruit slush. I love that they are willing go out of their ways to do that for us, and a lot of the time they use us as their "guinea pigs" for new menu ideas.

Aside from tea, they have a variety of dumplings and steamed buns for sale. My all time favorite are the teriyaki pork steamed buns, but the pork dumplings are great as well. I highly recommend that everyone give Bubble Maineia a try. If you are not from Maine, I encourage you to use the internets to your advantage and find one in your area. It is definitely a great experience.
